Commerce, CA – A tragic high-speed crash in Commerce, California that occured on Saturday evening, February 22, 2025, has left one person dead and multiple others injured after a suspect fleeing police lost control and crashed late Saturday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the pursuit began just after 11 p.m. in Bell Gardens when officers attempted to stop a red sedan. The driver refused to yield and sped through red lights, prompting officers to cancel the chase within a minute due to the increasing danger.
However, the suspect continued driving recklessly, reaching speeds of over 100 mph before crashing into a vehicle stopped at a red light. The impact sent the car careening into a nearby bus stop, fatally striking a person who was believed to be homeless and sleeping on a bench.
Authorities also reported that a pedestrian crossing the street at the time was severely injured and had to undergo a double leg amputation early Sunday morning. The driver of the red sedan has since been arrested, but further details about the crash are still under investigation.
