Los Angeles, CA – A high-speed police chase through the San Fernando Valley ended in tragedy Friday morning when a grand theft suspect crashed into a dump truck on the 210 Freeway in Los Angeles, Crescenta. The pursuit began shortly before 11 a.m. Saturday, May 3, 2025, after authorities responded to a theft in progress at a Target in Camarillo. The suspect, driving a black hatchback, led officers through freeways and surface streets, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph.
Eyewitnesses described the driver’s reckless behavior, including weaving through traffic on the shoulder. The chase came to a violent end near the Ocean View onramp when the suspect slammed into the back of a moving dump truck. The collision, described by witnesses as sounding like a “sonic boom,” left the suspect’s car mangled in the middle of the eastbound lanes.
California Highway Patrol officers and paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the dump truck was uninjured. All eastbound lanes of the freeway reopened around 7:30 p.m. after authorities cleared the scene and launched an investigation into the crash.
