Los Angeles, CA – Deputy Daniel V. Chavira, a 21-year-old off-duty Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy, tragically lost his life in a multi-car crash on Monday afternoon, May 19, 2025, in Santa Clarita. The accident occurred on San Francisquito Canyon Road, just south of Dry Gulch in Saugus. Deputy Chavira was airlifted from the scene but later succumbed to his injuries. Four other individuals involved in the crash were transported to the hospital.

Chavira had only recently joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in May 2024 after graduating from Academy Class 476. He was assigned to the North County Correctional Facility. His dedication to public safety extended throughout his family, with several relatives also serving in law enforcement, including his wife, Deputy Crystal Valencia, and his sister, Detective Nancy Alcaraz.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol. A solemn procession honoring Deputy Chavira took place Monday night in Santa Clarita, drawing support from multiple agencies.
